Time: Activity 2

Find an example of a photograph where the photographer has used a very fast shutter speed and describe the subject matter including the background. Discuss any technical difficulties the photographer may have encountered and how he or she may have overcome them.
Discuss what happened to the depth of field and why.
Discuss weather the image gives you the feeling of movement, stating the reasons for your conclusion.

The main subject depicted in this image is the man standing to the left of the stop light, and the people moving around him show the movement and continuation of time around him.

The depth of field never really changes as it only shows this one part of the sidewalk, however there would be more sidewalk in view if the people were not present.

The image shows nothing but movement in my opinion, with the man and light pole acting as a point of reference. The image is indeed showing motion because the subject is in perfect focus and that is something obtained by either a fast shutter, or a still subject. Considering the flow of motion is very apparent, I have to rule out the fast shutter speed option as that is inconclusive. In this case, it is obvious that the environment is in motion around the subject.

Time Activity 1

Look at a Henri Cartier-Bresson photograph and discuss why you think that capturing the decisive moment has added to the picture’s quality.

The photo has added quality with the subject's facial expressions. This is something that must have been taken at a surprise probably mid-sentence with the subject in a surprised stance. This adds to the overall mood and quality of the photo. The actual description of the mood can be altered due to different perspectives, but there is no doubt that the quality was enhanced tremendously with the facial expression ultimately leading to the better understanding of the mood to whoever is looking at it.
